Simple on the surface, formidable underneath
Home Assistant can do everything: over two thousand integrations, an automation engine with no limits, a community that has already tried it all. That's the catch. Everything is possible, so nothing is decided for you. And an automation that works “almost always” annoys you every single day.
“The light comes on when you walk in, goes off when you leave.” Ten lines, right? For a single room you actually have to reconcile four kinds of sensors, daylight, the time of day, the TV, you at the switch, a power cut and the moods of the hardware. Every rule comes from something that happened in a real home. None of them can be guessed.
What casasmooth's lighting really handles
- Four ways to see someone. The motion detector sees you walk by, the radar sees you sitting still, the door announces an entry, the camera confirms. Each has its own delay, each its own level of trust.
- Daylight. A margin so the lamp doesn't dither with every cloud, and a filter for the ten-franc sensors that report every second.
- The time of day. Morning, day, evening, night: each with its own scene, color, brightness and switch-off delay.
- Who's in charge. You switch on by hand, the automation stays quiet for thirty seconds. You switch off on your way out, it takes over again in three. A scene or coming home gets priority, then hands control back.
- The TV. Never lights out in the middle of the film. And a Chromecast flickering between paused and buffering every two seconds doesn't make the living room blink.
- Switching off. The lights dim first as a warning. Someone comes back? Everything stops.
- Power coming back. Wi-Fi bulbs switch themselves back on, sensors take a minute to return. The system waits, checks, and doesn't light up an empty house at three in the morning.
- Real hardware. A decoupled switch driving a Zigbee bulb must never actually cut the power, or the bulb goes dead. A gateway that lags doesn't hold up the rest.
Same standard for the shutters facing sun and wind, the heating that anticipates, security, temporary access, air quality, and above all energy: getting a heat pump, a battery and an electric car to dance with a dynamic tariff is no longer an automation, it's a small power plant. casasmooth delivers all of it generated, tested and re-checked at every update.
