The problem

The Swiss building stock is responsible for about 40% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions. Climate and electricity legislation demand a rapid transition. Yet the vast majority of buildings remain unequipped. Market solutions all fail on the same point: they cannot retrofit existing buildings at an acceptable cost.

Proprietary cloud

Requires a new building wired for it, and captures household data in a foreign silo.

Professional solutions

Unaffordable for existing homes or small businesses. Reserved for large commercial buildings.

Consumer solutions

Cannot hold up under professional use or serious energy integration.

Result: the building stock with the most to gain from optimisation is the one that benefits least.

Our approach

Retrofitting what exists

casasmooth is gradually retrofitted onto existing buildings, without heavy construction, reusing what is already in place and adding wireless modules where needed. The platform runs 100% locally on site. Data never leaves the building.

The technical bet is to build on Home Assistant as the foundation — the largest open-source ecosystem in the sector, with over 3,000 native integrations and zero vendor lock-in — and add the missing layer so a normal user can actually use it: coherent experience, accessible installation, viable distribution model in Switzerland.

Offices, shops, cafés, bars, workshops, concept stores. Same building blocks — adapted orchestration: opening hours, ambiance scenarios, heating/ventilation when unoccupied, air quality, energy management by off-peak hours.

Energy

Energy and Swiss smart grid

  • Dynamic distributor tariffs (VSE/StromVG standard, ElCom and LINDAS data)

  • Local production data: PV, battery, heat pumps, EV chargers
  • Response to DSO load management signals as standards stabilise

Goal: Enable every household or small professional site to optimise consumption and self-consumption based on the grid, without a third-party cloud aggregator capturing value and data. The end customer stays in control of their own energy.
