The problem
The Swiss building stock is responsible for about 40% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions. Climate and electricity legislation demand a rapid transition. Yet the vast majority of buildings remain unequipped. Market solutions all fail on the same point: they cannot retrofit existing buildings at an acceptable cost.
Professional solutions
Unaffordable for existing homes or small businesses. Reserved for large commercial buildings.
Consumer solutions
Cannot hold up under professional use or serious energy integration.
Result: the building stock with the most to gain from optimisation is the one that benefits least.
Our approach
Retrofitting what exists
casasmooth is gradually retrofitted onto existing buildings, without heavy construction, reusing what is already in place and adding wireless modules where needed. The platform runs 100% locally on site. Data never leaves the building.
The technical bet is to build on Home Assistant as the foundation — the largest open-source ecosystem in the sector, with over 3,000 native integrations and zero vendor lock-in — and add the missing layer so a normal user can actually use it: coherent experience, accessible installation, viable distribution model in Switzerland.

SmartGridReady: casasmooth is built on an open architecture of controllable entities and grid-to-device dialogue, whose native Swiss implementation is SmartGridReady — a standard driven by industry, in particular electricity distributors for whom smart-grid management is a major stake for the future. The same logic controls any SGr-labelled device — heat pump, charger, inverter — with no proprietary gateway and no manufacturer lock-in, and extends depending on the market to other European interoperability standards (notably EEBUS/IEC 63380). The home responds to grid conditions locally, and the value stays with the customer rather than a third-party aggregator.
Goal: Enable every household or small professional site to optimise consumption and self-consumption based on the grid, without a third-party cloud aggregator capturing value and data. The end customer stays in control of their own energy.
Why now
Three forces converge in Switzerland, simultaneously, for the first time.
Regulatory framework
The 2023 Climate Act and the Electricity Act create a political obligation to renovate and optimise. Distributors are under pressure to offer solutions to their customers.
Technical maturity
Home Assistant and its ecosystem have crossed the threshold of reliability and hardware coverage. No more tinkering — the foundation is solid.
Digital sovereignty
Distrust of foreign clouds has gone mainstream. The promise "your data stays with you" finally resonates with the general public.
What we're looking for
casasmooth is a product. Not a research project, not a study. The platform is operational, deployed to real users, in real buildings — residential and professional, new and old, from 19th-century farmhouses to urban concept stores.
